The modern life of the horse can leave him susceptible to stress in the limbs. Indeed, by far the majority of incapacitation in the horse is due to lameness in the leg or hoof. Riding on metalled roads, jumping and travelling can all cause minor bruising or stiffness whichmay leave the horse unfit for work. In the wild the horse had access to a wide range of vegetation to suit all his nutritional needs, and could specifically select those required,including herbs to ease stiffness. Unfortunately due to the limited number of species on modern pasture the horse can no longer make that choice.
