Equitector Riding Boots

Toe Protection

Are your feet Hoof Proof?

Every horse rider is exposed to a horse accidentally treading on their feet.

An accident can happen in a flash of a second, often resulting in, at best a bruise and at worst broken toes.

Yet a properly constructed boot with toe protection especially designed for the equestrian environment, would eliminate most of the risks.

Equitector riding boots is a pioneer in this field and in 1991 we launched our first truly safe riding boot. From the outset our safety record is unblemished.

All Equitector riding boots have built in toe protection that cannot be felt nor seen. The inbuilt protection system is invisible and is there just in case your horse wants to make a good impression on you.

But how safe are our boots?

Equitector has put a lot of research into the safety aspects and our first hand equestrian knowledge was essential.

Whilst the steel toe cap can withstand 1000 kilo (2200 pounds) or 100 joules of pressure, it is on soft ground where the rider is most at risk.

(Left - example of a toe cap without a re-enforced sole)

If the sole construction is insufficient in strength and rigidity, then the steel toe cap will squeeze through the sole into the soil and squash all your toes with the ceiling of the cap.

As we are horse riders, we were aware of this problem from the outset and therefore our sole construction is re-enforced to eliminate this exposure.

(Left - Equitector toe cap with
re-enforced sole)

In case of an accident on soft ground, the whole of the forepart of the boot will sink into the ground and not just the steel toe cap.

The compartment that protects the foot remains intact.

All our boots have been tested for safety by an independent accredited testing house and comply with the CE safety standard BS EN346.

The Climate Control boots are insulated on the inside of the toecaps to protect the feet from the cold of the metal during the winter.

These boots will provide an additional level of protection against a horse treading on the sides or heels of the boots.

Equitector riding boots will protect the most exposed part your feet against the impact of a hoof of a horse of any size whether you find yourself on soft or firm ground.

Warning:
As the European safety standard requirements assume that the boot are used on hard surfaces, conventional Industrial footwear may not neccesarily be safe of soft ground.

Equitector boots are designed to be safe on soft ground.

your foot size -

All boots can only be ordered in UK sizes and width

Because there are always differences between one make of footwear to another, it is always best to check before your order what size you are in our boots.

1. Wear the type of socks you normally use for riding during winter.
The size chart allows for a light to medium weight sports sock that be can used with Climate Control boots all the year round.

2. You will require an assistant.

It is not recommended that you do the drawing your self because when you bend forwards, it will stretch your foot and enlarge the measurement.

3. Put one foot on a plain piece of copy paper on a hard floor. Not on carpet.
Look straight ahead of you and not down.
Looking down will put pressure on the foot and may spread the toes
.

4. Let your assistant draw around your foot with a regular tipped pen or pencil.
Do not use a marker pen
.  Ensure that the tip on the pen/pencil is as close to the foot as possible giving you an accurate outline of the foot. Repeat with the other foot.

5. Measure the longest length of both feet with a ruler or tape measure from heel to toe and the width at the widest point.

6. Take the measurement of your bigger foot and check size chart.

NB......

Your size may differ from your normal shoe size. This is not unusual. Because of the toe protection system, the foot sits differently in the boot.

A sock thinner than a light or medium weight sports sock can make a difference of 0.3 mm to the foot length measurements on the size chart. With Climate Control boots you do not need thicker socks in winter.

Boots with Climate Control are only available in Medium but the width of these is about 0.25 cm wider than shown in the table.

If you are in between two length measurements, take the higher figure.

If you have a very high instep add 1/2 a size in the UK size.

If your foot is up to 0.5 cm wider than shown and wide is not available, than take half a size bigger. If your foot is  0.5 to 1 cm wider, go for a full size bigger.

If you have a bunion but otherwise a regular foot width, choose Medium. The toe shape of our boots is accomodates bunion feet very well.

For the Ladies -
If your width is in the measurement of the table, choose a Medium

For Men -
If you have an average foot in width, choose Wide where possible.
If you have a very narrow foot choose Medium.

For the USA - Canada
US width C = Wide Order half size up
US width D =  Extra Wide  Order one size up)

Best to make sure
An incorrect measurement can result in you receiving a boot which is either too small or too large and an exchange will mean extra expense. If your measured size differs much from the size you normally wear, it would be best to check the measurements again.

New Classic Size Guide

Each boot has two panels of heavy duty elastic over the calf of the leg that stretches 2 to 2 1/2 inches, dependent on model and size.

This makes the boots expandable and gives that comfortable snug feeling. The three styles of ladies boots overlap in width.

As some flexibility is needed for riding comfort, it is advisable to choose the next width up, if your measurement is bordering on the limit of the boot.

How to check your size -

1. Measure your foot as per the foot size checker

2. Once you have established your foot size, measure the height (2) from the floor to underneath    the knee. It is best to sit on a chair in your breeches wearing your regular riding socks. When you sit down your calf will be 1 - 1.5 cm wider than when you stand.

 3. Then measure width/calf (1) of your leg. You can also check the lower leg width(L.W),  just above the ankle.

4. The elastic panels over the calf of the leg will stretch up to about 5 cms.
Provided your leg width is no bigger than the figure under Calf  in the table +5 (6 cm), or 2 ( 2 1/4) inches in a sitting position, the fit will be correct.

For example;  size 6 Short, Calf  38 +5= 43 cm
or 17 '.

If the calf measurement is close to the maximum stretch of the boot, it is recommended to select a wider fitting. About 5mm or 1/4'of stretch is needed for comfort in wear.

The short version has two calf fittings, Wide and Extra Wide.
